Ronald Jones Fantasy Outlook

Ronald Jones was a very productive back in college. He has been a dark horse pick for a fantasy breakout year if he can stay healthy. Lets dive into what Rojo is working with.

Both Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich are back calling plays for the Bucs. They both love to air it out and they also went out and got Tom Brady. Jameis Winston threw the ball 626 times last season which was tied for 1st. His stats were 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns.

If Arians and Leftwich can do that with Jameis, why in the world would they not toss it around again with the greatest QB of all time? Rojo’s 172 carries last season ranked 24th.

It is not that Rojo is ineffective because he averaged 4.2 yards per carry. He is a north and south type of back which fits the Bucs north and south run game.

Pros & Cons

  • Lead Guy
  • Effective Enough
  • Pass happy offense
  • Not much of a receiving threat

They do not try to run outside, or run counters and try to get cute. They want to be physical when they do hand it off and go straight ahead.

It is good news that Peyton Barber is gone. Barber had 154 carries last season, so Rojo is certainly in for a bigger workload this season.

However, rookie third round pick Ke’Shawn Vaughn is one to watch out for but he should not steal 154 carries from Rojo like Barber did.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Line 2020

Projected Starting Line: LT: Donovan Smith, LG: Ali Marpet, C: Ryan Jensen, RG: Alex Cappa, RT: Tristan Wirfs

Smith and Marpet have been with the Bucs 5 seasons already. They both made the all rookie team in 2015 and have been solid starters that bring leadership to this unit.

Jensen became the highest paid center in the NFL when he joined the Bucs in 2018. He is still a solid starter.

Cappa is a big bully type of blocker that tries to impose his will on defenders. Definitely a better run blocker than he is at pass protection.

Wirfs lit up the combine and has high expectations as the team used their first round pick on him.

All in all, this group is in the top half of the league.

Ronald Jones Strength of Schedule

The Bucs and Ronald Jones will only face two teams that had defenses that ranked in the top 10 in 2019.

5 times the Bucs are scheduled to play in primetime.

Week 13 is a super late bye. 12 straight weeks but rest right before the playoffs.

Ronald Jones Fantasy Playoff Schedule

Week 14 home against the Vikings. Week 15 at the Falcons. Week 16 at Detroit and Week 17 home against the Falcons again.

Ronald Jones Injury History

Did not miss a game in 2019. Miss 7 games in 2018 because of a hamstring injury.

Ronald Jones Skillset

Home Run Ability: C+. Above average. Jones could surprise a defense and take one to the house from distance.

Playmaking Ability: C. Runs behind his pads with good strength but that is it.

Is Ronald Jones a Good Fantasy Pick?

Yes. The odds are in his favor with a weaker schedule and teams worried about the vaunted Bucs passing offense. His volume usage is the only thing keeping him at an RB3.
